Maurice Blackburn’s Anna Walsh is lawyer of the year
The director and head of Maurice Blackburn's medical law
practice in NSW, Anna Walsh, has won a prestigious NSW Women
Lawyer of the Year achievement award for 2011.
Anna won her award in the 'private practice' category for her
excellence in practicing law, and commitment to supporting other
women lawyers in their careers.
She started in her legal career in 1999 after growing up on the
NSW Central Coast and has practiced exclusively in medical law,
particularly in cases involving children, and has acted for many
families in coronial inquests.
Anna has Honours degrees in both Law and Nursing from Newcastle
University and is currently completing a Masters of Law by research
at the University of Sydney.
Kathryn
Booth, the national director of Maurice Blackburn's medical law
practice said the firm was immensely proud that Anna's achievements
had been recognised in this award.
"Anna is an extraordinarily compassionate and caring lawyer and
with immense skill in medical law cases has achieved great outcomes
for her clients," Ms Booth said.
"At the same time Anna has provided support and mentoring for
her female colleagues and finds time to present and write about her
specialty to audiences of young lawyers and health
professionals."
Anna is a member of the Australian Lawyers' Alliance, the Women
Lawyers' Association of New South Wales, the St Thomas More Society
and is an Honorary member of the Spastic Centre's McLeod Wheel of
Friends.
Maurice Blackburn has Australia largest plaintiff medical law
practice, employing 21 lawyers.
