Coronial Inquest into the death of Larry Knight to begin today
The Coronial Inquest into the death of Larry Knight will today
begin, in Launceston.
Jacquie Knight, widow of Larry, issued the following
statement:
"Losing Larry has been a terribly difficult time for me and for
the Knight family. It upsets me greatly to know that my sons
Addison and Thomas will be brought up without Larry.
"Larry was an easy-going and private man. He came to work at
Beaconsfield Mine - because it meant that he could live in
Launceston - the town where he was born and bred.
"I know that this Inquest will not bring Larry back. But for me
- it is important because -it will help answer the important
questions - why did Larry die, could his death have been
prevented, and what can be done to prevent other mining deaths
happening in the future?
"I simply don't want any other mining family to experience the
pain that we have experienced," Mrs Knight said.
Jacquie Knight will not be making any public comments throughout
the inquiry, and has requested that all media enquires be directed
to her lawyers at Maurice Blackburn. Maurice Blackburn is
representing Jacquie and Shane Knight, the Australian Workers Union
and its members.
The hearing will begin today at 10:00am, at the Coroner's Court,
situated in the Magistrates Court of Launceston.
