Haneef Lawyers seek to have Department of Immigration and Citizenship documents released today at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal
The lawyers for Dr Mohamed Haneef will today seek to have
documents about the detainment and deportation of Dr Haneef,
released at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
Maurice Blackburn Principal, Rod Hodgson said that through the
process of FOI, Dr. Haneef's legal team had been able to access a
range of documents which indicated that there was a centralised
approach in the government's refusal to release information
regarding Dr. Haneef.
"Today we hope that through the AAT, we will be able to access
documents which until now, the Federal Government's bureaucracy has
attempted to hide.
"We believe, that these documents will show that the Federal
Government, in the lead up to the 2007 election, was trying to
impede the disclosure of important documents," Mr. Hodgson
said.
The documents to be released today may also show that promises
of full cooperation with the Clarke Inquiry are not being kept.
All media organisations please note that the hearing at the
Administrative Appeals Tribunal will begin today at 10am, at
Hearing Room 4, level 4.
Dr. Haneef's legal team will be available for interview at the
conclusion of the hearing, around 4pm.
