Press Releases and Announcements - 11 September 2009
Maurice Blackburn is proud to support Karen
Banton in the establishment of the Bernie Banton Foundation. The
Foundation was launched by The Hon Kevin Rudd at the Bernie
Banton Centre at Concord Hospital in Sydney, on Friday 11
September.
The Foundation's mission is to offer support, comfort,
encouragement, hope and a listening ear to sufferers of asbestos
disease, their carers and loved ones. Their aims
are to:
- Develop a support and education service for asbestos
disease sufferers and their families throughout
Australia.
- Facilitate the education, advancement and community
awareness of asbestos and its dangers throughout
Australia.
- Promote research into asbestos-related diseases including
provision of funding for this and each of the above
purposes.
- Lobby on behalf of asbestos disease sufferers and their
families, as well as researchers, educators and support workers in
the field of asbestos-related diseases.
The Bernie Banton Foundation is an important legacy to
Bernie Banton and the many people in Australia who suffer from an
asbestos related disease each year. It is expected that this
number will continue to grow over the next ten years, therefore the
launch of the Bernie Banton Foundation comes at critical time and
will provide much needed support services.
Maurice Blackburn is proud to be extending our network of
relationships with support groups, in order to make a difference to
Australian communities.
