Press Releases and Announcements - 30 September 2009

Maurice Blackburn and Canberra firm Pamela Coward Higgins have merged, effective from Wednesday 30 September 2009.

Maurice Blackburn Chief Executive Officer, Greg Tucker, said that the merger would create one of the largest plaintiff law practices in the ACT, bringing together the specialist expertise of the two firms.

"Maurice Blackburn and Pamela Coward Higgins have a rich history in defending the rights of workers and fighting for social justice, we believe that this merger will enable us to provide a greater, more specialised service to the people of the Australian Capital Territory," Mr Tucker said.

Ms Thena Kyprianou from Pamela Coward Higgins, said that the merger provided an opportunity to increase its strength and depth in the plaintiff law sector, particularly as the firm would now have a national reach.

Effective from 30 September 2009, this merger will see Maurice Blackburn's staff from Canberra join the legal staff from Pamela Coward Higgins office, in Alinga St Canberra.  The practice will continue to provide advice for: Work Related Injuries, Road Accident Injuries, Asbestos Diseases, Medical Negligence, Public Liability, Industrial and Employment Law, Superannuation and Insurance Disputes and Commercial Advisory Services.

"In recent years Maurice Blackburn has strengthened its expertise through mergers with other legal firms and has also doubled the number of our offices to ensure that we can better service local communities.

"Our history and our values remain at the heart of what we do today, and we believe that this merger, will assist us in continuing to provide quality legal services to those who are injured or who suffer losses due to illegal behaviour," Mr Tucker said.
