Dr Vivian Waller wins Women Lawyers Achievement Award by the Victorian Womens Lawyers.
Dr Viv Waller, who established the Sexual Assault Unit at Maurice Blackburn Cashman, has been awarded a Women Lawyers Achievement Award.
The awards were announced at a ceremony in Melbourne on 2 June 2005.
In 2003 Dr Waller established Victoria's first specialised unit dedicated to the legal representation of those who have endured rape and other sexual assault. She has helped hundreds of men, women and children achieve compensation for their injuries from individuals, government agencies and children's homes.
Her nomination was supported by Maurice Blackburn's Women's Law Section, which described Dr Waller as "an outspoken advocate for increased participation by women in law reform and governance.

Congratulations to our Women's Law Section members and lawyer Simone Bingham for their winning work on the Childcare pay equity case.
The Childcare case has won the ACTU Jennie George Award for the advancement of working women. The award is shared between the Australian Services Union and our Women's Law Section, which conducted the case pro bono.
The lawyer who ran the case on behalf of the ASU, Simone Bingham, left us recently to become a barrister.
Simone has been highly commended by the judges in the 2003 Human Rights Awards by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission. Her work for the Childcare case saw her nominated in the Law Award category.
The childcare case saw significant pay rises of up to $150 a week for local government childcare workers in Victoria. The agreement, which had the consent of the local government employers and the union, was filed with the Australian Industrial Relations Commission in June 2003.
