Andrew Dimsey is head of Maurice Blackburn's asbestos and public liability practice groups.
Andrew Dimsey has worked all over Australia, handling hundreds
of claims for victims of asbestos diseases. Due to his wide range
of experience, he has developed skills in maximising legal
entitlements by bringing claims under the most advantageous system
for his clients. Andrew also has extensive experience helping
people with public liability claims.
Andrew has achieved the highest award of general damages (for
pain and suffering) in Australian legal history in the case of
King v Amaca. This
hard-fought action was decided by a Supreme Court jury and later
endorsed by the Court of Appeal. James Hardie sought to appeal to
the High Court of Australia but abandoned this appeal leaving the
jury verdict in place.
In addition to asbestos disease claims, Andrew has handled many
other occupational disease claims including claims for workers
injured by welding fumes, passive smoking, wood dust, talc powder,
silica and rubber fumes.
Because of his close contact with the victims and families of
victims of asbestos diseases, Andrew is passionate about fighting
for their compensation rights. He has also been involved in
successful lobbying for legislative changes to advance the rights
of victims of asbestos diseases.
Andrew is also a member of the advisory board of Asbestoswise
(formerly Asbestos Information and Support Service), the Gippsland
Asbestos Related Disease Support Inc (GARDS) and the Thoracic
Society of Australia and New Zealand.
