We manage the complicated legal process for you by:

What we stand for

Our legal teams are friendly, warm and free of judgement. It’s in our DNA.

We are passionate about supporting you to get the best possible outcome, and treating you with empathy and kindness along the way.

We believe everybody deserves access to justice, not just those who can afford it.

What we’re known for

We’ve helped influence some of Australia’s most important legal decisions, including:

  • the 40-hour workweek
  • equal pay for women and Indigenous workers
  • the largest class action settlement in Australian history after the Black Saturday bushfires.

When we see inequality and unfairness, we speak up and we act.

We know how the system works because we’ve taken it on countless times before. Let us take it on for you.

With over 30 offices across the country, our local lawyers can meet with you face-to-face or online. In some cases, we can even come to you.

Where it all started: Father of the Fair Go documentary

Maurice Blackburn was one of Australia's most prolific social reformers and progressive thinkers, a true freedom fighter.

He was an unlikely Australia hero - not the masculine, sporting, larrikin or war hero we usually celebrate. Using intellect as his weapon, Maurice was an activist hero who spent his life standing up for the poor and working classes.

Featuring prominent Australians from political, legal and union circles, Father of the Fair Go is a documentary detailing the life of a man defined by an unwavering conscience, strength of character and a core need to 'make life a little easier for the men and women of this country.'

After more than a hundred years since Maurice Blackburn started our firm, in 1919, we look back at the life of a man whose sense of civil liberty was ahead of his time. From his principled stance against overseas conscription, his support for women’s rights and his role in shaping Australia's industrial relations movement, his legacy continues in the rights we enjoy today.
