New law President for North East Law Association

10 May 2013
The North East Law Association of the Law Institute of Victoria has a new President for the first time in eight years.

Danny Frigerio, who is also the Principal of the Wangaratta office of Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, was today elected by the Association's full board as new President.

A Wangaratta local, Mr Frigerio says being the first Wangaratta based President in a number of years will help bring a different perspective to how legal services are provided across the north east.

"I'm really proud to be stepping into this role, and I think it's important that we continue to advocate for strong legal services close to where people live, here in the North East," Mr Frigerio said.

"An issue that I'm passionate about is encouraging local lawyers to become accredited specialists in their area of practice. Having accredited specialists throughout the region is important because it means people don't have to travel all the way to Melbourne to get specialist advice at what is already a difficult time for them - they can access expert help close to home.

"It also has the added benefit of building and improving strong, viable legal practices, which can open up career options for students living here who have a passion for justice and want to pursue a professional career in the law with industry endorsed accredited specialists, without having to work in Melbourne."

The North East Law Association of the Law Institute of Victoria covers Wangaratta, Yarrawonga, Rutherglen, Wodonga, Beechworth, Myrtleford, Bright and Benalla.
