GRADUATE PROGRAM VICTORIA

Gaining entrance to the Graduate Program at Maurice Blackburn means an exciting start to your legal career in one of Australia's leading social justice law firms. The 12 month Graduate Program provides a broad range of training designed to give you insight into all aspects of plaintiff law. The program encourages active participation and contribution which enables you to be rewarded with excellent training opportunities, tangible professional development and an insight into life at Maurice Blackburn. The Program has been specifically designed to combine formal training with invaluable hands-on experience. Maurice Blackburn will also support you to complete Practical Legal Training (PLT), a necessary requirement for admission.

The Graduate Program consists of two 6 month rotations in different practice areas and offices of Maurice Blackburn. You will work closely with senior lawyers and partners, and other internal and external experts, and be able to build lasting relationships through legal networking events. As a Law Graduate we encourage you to shadow experienced lawyers, attend court and client meetings, and even brief counsel.

Above all, you will be able to experience at first hand, life as a legal professional at one of Australia’s most trustworthy, successful and respected law firm.

Apply to become a Law Graduate in Victoria

  1. Application process and dates are in accordance with Law Institute of Victoria guidelines.
  2. In accordance with the Graduate Recruitment Guidelines, previous clerks and current employees will be eligible to receive a priority offer to commence as a Law Graduate in 2020. Offers will be made on Tuesday 6th August 2019 and must be accepted or declined by Wednesday 7th August 2019.
  3. Law Graduates are employed on a 12-month contract.
  4. A permanent position as a Lawyer may be offered upon completion of the Graduate Program.

The three-week seasonal clerkship program at Maurice Blackburn gives you the opportunity to experience what it’s like to actually walk the talk in Australia’s leading social justice law firm. Applying to become a seasonal clerk at Maurice Blackburn will expose you to some of Australia’s leading legal minds and is the first step in a legal career which will make a genuine difference in people’s lives.

Applications are open to all students in their penultimate year of their law degree. If your application is successful you will complete the 3 and a half weeks seasonal clerkship program at Maurice Blackburn in November/December 2019 or June/July 2020.

How to apply

  1. Open to all students in their penultimate year of their law degree.
  2. Apply to become a Seasonal Clerk:
    Applications open: 9.00am Monday 8 July 2019.
    b. Applications close: 11.59pm Sunday  11 August 2019.
    c. We only hold one round of interviews and these will be held in the second half of September  2019.
    d. Offers made: Thursday  10th October 2019.
  3. If your application is successful you will complete the 3 and a half week seasonal clerkship program at Maurice Blackburn in November/December 2019 or June/July

    b. Applications close: 9.00am (AEST) Monday 1st April 2019
    c. Offers for vacation clerkships made: Monday 20th May 2019
    d. Offers for vacation clerkships must be accepted or declined by 5:00pm Tuesday 21 May 2019
  3. If your application is successful you will complete the 4 week seasonal clerkship program at Maurice Blackburn in either June/July 2019 or November/December 2019. The clerkship program runs for 4 weeks.

JUNIOR LEGAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM

Start your legal career with a highly influential firm.

Our Junior Legal Assistant program has been developed to grow new candidates into highly skilled and knowledgeable Legal Assistants. Our Junior Legal Assistants will have the opportunity to work with senior Legal Assistants as well as a range of Lawyers, Associates and Principals resulting in exciting and rewarding careers in some of Australia’s best practices.

The 12 month program provides a broad range of training designed to familiarise you with all aspects of plaintiff law and litigation practices. The program consists of 2 x 6 month rotations and provides you with the opportunity to develop a thorough understanding of two practice areas. The program encourages active participation and contribution, enabling you to be rewarded with excellent training opportunities, and to provide you with a real sense of accomplishment.

How to apply

  1. Applications for the Maurice Blackburn Junior Legal Assistant Program open on Saturday 1st September 2018
  2. Applications must be made via the Maurice Blackburn careers section and email applications will not be accepted
  3. Offers will be made on Friday 26th October 2018
  4. The 2018 Junior Legal Assistant Program will commence in February 2019.
