TRAINEE LAWYER PROGRAM VICTORIA

Gaining entrance to the Trainee Lawyer Program at Maurice Blackburn will see you getting real experience right away. Our Trainee Lawyers acquire well-rounded legal experience early in their career by working across various areas of practice, along with opportunities to participate in social justice cases, sustainability issues, the women’s law section and our cultural diversity working group.

You will work closely with senior lawyers and partners, and other internal and external experts, and be able to build lasting relationships through legal networking events. As a Trainee Lawyer we encourage you to shadow experienced lawyers, attend court and client meetings, and even brief counsel.

Above all, you will be able to experience at first hand, life as a legal professional at one of Australia’s most trustworthy, successful and respected law firm.

The Trainee Lawyer Program

Apply to become a Trainee Lawyer.

  1. Application process and dates are in accordance with Law Institute of Victoria guidelines.
  2. In accordance with the Graduate Recruitment Guidelines, previous clerks and current employees will be eligible to receive a priority offer to commence as a Trainee Lawyer in 2018.  Offers will be made on Tuesday 7th August 2018 and must be accepted or declined by Wednesday 8th August 2018.
  3. Trainee Lawyers will undertake two six-month rotations and are employed on a 12-month contract.
  4. A permanent position as a Lawyer may be offered upon completion of the Trainee Lawyer Program.

The Graduate Lawyer Program

  1. Graduate Lawyers undertake two six-month rotations and are employed on a twelve month contract.
  2. Along with ongoing feedback, structured learning opportunities include a comprehensive orientation program, presentations on relevant legal, business and workplace issues.
  3. A permanent position as a Lawyer may be offered upon completion of the Graduate Program.

  3. General market applications will open on Monday 6th August 2018 at 9.00am and close Monday 13th August 2018 at 9:00am.
  4. Offers for Trainee Lawyer positions will be made on Monday 17th September 2018 and must be accepted or declined by 5.00pm on Monday 18th September 2018.
  5. Trainee Lawyers will undertake two six-month rotations and are employed on a twelve month contract.
  6. A permanent position as a Lawyer may be offered upon completion of the Trainee Lawyer Program.
  7. Maurice Blackburn is a signatory to the Queensland Law Society guidelines for the recruitment of seasonal clerks and graduates.

Applying to become a seasonal clerk at Maurice Blackburn will expose you to some of Australia’s leading legal minds and is the first step in a legal career which will make a genuine difference in people’s lives.

Applications are open to all students in their penultimate year of their law degree. If your application is successful you will complete the 3 week seasonal clerkship program at Maurice Blackburn in November/December 2018 or June/July 2019.

How to apply

  1. Open to all students in their penultimate year of their law degree.
  2. Apply to become a Seasonal Clerk:
    a. Applications open: 9.00am Monday 9 July 2018 
    b. Applications close: 11.59pm Sunday 12 August 2018
    c. We only hold one round of interviews and these will be held in the second half of September 2018
    d. Offers made: Thursday 18th October 2018 
    e. Program commences either in November/December 2018 or June/July 2019

  3. If your application is successful you will complete the 4 week seasonal clerkship program at Maurice Blackburn in either June/July 2018 or November/December 2018. The clerkship program runs for 4 weeks.

JUNIOR LEGAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM

Start your legal career with a highly influential firm.

Our Junior Legal Assistant program has been developed to grow new candidates into highly skilled and knowledgeable Legal Assistants. Our Junior Legal Assistants will have the opportunity to work with senior Legal Assistants as well as a range of Lawyers, Associates and Principals resulting in exciting and rewarding careers in some of Australia’s best practices.

The 12 month program provides a broad range of training designed to familiarise you with all aspects of plaintiff law and litigation practices. The program consists of 2 x 6 month rotations and provides you with the opportunity to develop a thorough understanding of two practice areas. The program encourages active participation and contribution, enabling you to be rewarded with excellent training opportunities, and to provide you with a real sense of accomplishment.

How to apply

  1. Applications for the Maurice Blackburn Junior Legal Assistant Program open on Saturday 1st September 2018
  2. Applications must be made via the Maurice Blackburn careers section and email applications will not be accepted
  3. Offers will be made on Friday 26th October 2018
  4. The 2018 Junior Legal Assistant Program will commence in February 2019.
