Opal Tower potential class action

Maurice Blackburn, Australia’s leading class action law firm, has been retained by a number of owners of residential units in the Opal Tower to investigate a class action on behalf of owners who have, or are likely to, suffer financial losses due to the design and construction issues in the damaged Opal Tower building at Sydney Olympic Park.

Lot owners within the Opal Tower building are invited to register their interest in the proposed class action by completing the registration form.

Please register as soon as possible and by 8 February 2019.

Background

Around 2:30pm on 24 December 2018 residents of the newly completed Opal Tower in Sydney Olympic Park heard and saw a loud crack on the 10th floor of the building. Thousands of residents were evacuated from the building and its surrounds.

Investigations into the cause of the design and construction issues are ongoing but residents remain in alternative accommodation and have suffered or will suffer financial loss as a result of actions leading to the events on 24 December 2018 at the Opal Tower building.

Ultimately, owners should not have to bear the costs of repairing design or constructions defects, lose rental income or suffer a drop in the value of their property. We have been instructed by Opal Tower owners to investigate legal action against those responsible.

Maurice Blackburn intends that any class action to be run for the Opal Tower owners will be run on a no win, no fee* basis and will not be funded by a litigation funder or require class members to pay any funding commission from any compensation.
