Jessica Naimo is an experienced class actions Special Counsel in Maurice Blackburn’s Sydney office.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws and has more than 15 years’ experience in strategic litigation with a focus on financial services, consumer law and actions on behalf of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. 

Jessica played a key role in the superannuation class action against Colonial First State Investments Ltd which reached an in-principle settlement in early 2022. She was also instrumental in the successful class action against Sirtex Medical Ltd which settled in June 2019. Prior to this, Jessica was responsible for the investigation and commencement of actions against Radio Rentals and QLD Cash Converters. 

Prior to working at Maurice Blackburn, Jessica’s experience includes working as a senior in-house lawyer at the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC), focusing on financial services regulation and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumer issues. She spent more than five years acting for First Nations peoples in native title litigation and on NSW Aboriginal Land Claim matters. Jessica has previously worked at ASIC, two Sydney-based law firms, and the City of Sydney.

Jessica’s major litigation wins include:

  • Acting in a superannuation class action alleging breaches of the trustee’s best interest duty to beneficiaries, which achieved an in-principle settlement in March 2022;
  • Achieving settlement in June 2019 in a complex shareholder class action alleging breaches of continuous disclosure laws;
  • Issuing penalty infringements to companies for breaches of credit and consumer laws; and
  • Successful civil proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia regarding misconduct by companies providing financial products to vulnerable consumers.

Jessica places a high value on physical and mental health, and has been an accredited yoga teacher since 2013.
