Tony Kerin is the Managing Principal in Maurice Blackburn’s Adelaide office, with 30 years’ experience as a lawyer.

Tony began his legal career after graduating with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the South Australian Institute of Technology. Before joining Maurice Blackburn in 2015, Anthony spent 22 years as a Director in a prominent South Australian law firm, including seven years as Managing Director.

He is an impressively talented and experienced legal counsellor and litigator, who represents clients across a range of areas of law, and is significantly experienced in personal injury, medical negligence and other compensation claims, as well as criminal and employment law.

Tony also has a particular interest in bringing claims for the survivors of childhood sexual abuse. He is specially trained in trauma informed practice which ensures he will work with them to access justice in a way that recognises the complex trauma they have suffered.

Drawn to the practice of law by a desire to ensure a fair deal for injured and disadvantaged people, Tony has spent most of his career fighting for the rights of personal injury law clients and working to advance the interests of personal injury litigants in South Australia and around the country. Doyles Guide lists Tony as a recommended lawyer for asbestos and dust diseases in SA.

“I learnt from and was mentored by outstanding practitioners and people that, combined with an innate sense of wanting justice for all, has driven me my entire career,” says Tony.

Tony's determination to ensure a fair go for injured people has taken this fight beyond his client work and into the legislative arena, through his long-time membership of the Australian Lawyers Alliance. As State President of the South Australian branch of the ALA for eight years and National President in 2012-13, Tony made the National Disability Insurance Scheme a top priority for the ALA, and has remained an outspoken critic of what he describes as the “savage” changes to South Australia’s Compulsory Third Party Insurance Scheme.

“The most rewarding thing about my work, even after all this time, is being able to successfully conclude a long running personal injury case and obtain a positive result for my client. All too often the odds – and the legislation – are stacked in favour of the insurance companies, so it is immensely satisfying to be able to stand up for the rights of an individual.”

A highly regarded legal commentator, Tony has contributed editorials for ALA’s Precedent magazine while National President, and has made numerous media appearances as an ALA representative over the past 10 years, as well as contributing papers at Continuing Legal Education (CLE) conferences ranging over 20 years. Now an occasional special guest, he served as radio 5AA’s regular legal commentator from 2010–2013. Tony is also Honorary Solicitor for Bowls South Australia and contributes regular articles to the SA Bowler Magazine.
