Craig Bailey is a highly experienced overseas qualified compensation lawyer in Maurice Blackburn’s Southport office on the Gold Coast. He helps people with workers’ compensation, road accident and public liability claims.
Craig completed his law degree in England, and it was during this time that time that he became inspired to pursue his passion – fighting for those who have been hurt by the negligence of others.
“As a law student, I was recruited by a large law firm in the UK to assist on a High Court test case on behalf of numerous clients who had contracted asbestos-related conditions from exposure to asbestos in the 1940s through to the 1970s," says Craig.
“My role was to help read through the mountain of documents that had been disclosed by the defendant. I was disgusted to find documents between management acknowledging that they were aware that asbestos was a ticking-time-bomb but had agreed not to tell the workers about it and allow them to work in ignorance of the dangers.
“That one case ignited a fire in me, that still burns almost 20 years later – to help those people who have suffered due to the negligence of others.”
Craig is always inspired to see clients who never give up despite life-changing injuries, and persist even when faced with countless hurdles.
“I can’t fix what has happened. However, what I can do is get a client compensation for what they have been through. It gives me great satisfaction when clients tell me the difference that compensation makes in their lives.”
Craig believes it is critical to work with the union movement to do everything possible to protect the rights of injured people.
