Jenny Tallis is a Special Counsel in Maurice Blackburn’s Sydney office.
Jenny has more than 25 years’ experience working in Sydney, Adelaide and London as a commercial litigator for plaintiff and corporate defendants.
Since joining Maurice Blackburn in 2007, Jenny has worked on a number of very significant, complex and successful securities class actions, including those against AWB, OZ Minerals, Transpacific Industries and Leighton Holdings. She is currently engaged in the Treasury Wine Estate securities class action and also has the conduct of a large negligence claim brought on behalf of intellectually and psychiatrically disabled residents of a boarding house against the boarding house manager and the State of NSW.
“My interest in class action law grew after witnessing the devastating impact of the 2001 corporate collapse of HIH Insurance on individuals and small businesses. From that time on I became quite passionate about shining the spotlight on poor corporate conduct and trying to promote greater corporate accountability towards stakeholders without a loud voice at the table such as investors and shareholders,” says Jenny.
“The most rewarding aspect of my work is the opportunity to help large numbers of individual claimants, including disadvantaged people who have been treated poorly, to receive compensation and achieve justice. The other outstanding privilege is to work with a team of incredibly bright and passionate lawyers with similar values.”
Before joining Maurice Blackburn, Jenny conducted numerous, wide ranging commercial and insurance related disputes in the District, Supreme and Federal courts. She describes her key strength as being her depth of experience from decades of hard fought litigation combined with the wisdom, practicality and humility that comes from being a parent.
Jenny describes the happy balance she has struck between motherhood and her challenging career as her single greatest achievement. She holds Bachelor and Master of Laws degrees from Adelaide University.
