Jenny Tran

Jenny Tran is In-House Counsel (Senior Associate) in Maurice Blackburn’s Victorian WorkCover practice at our Melbourne office.

Practice Area

Work injury

Qualification(s)

BA/LLB

Jenny was initially drawn to social justice issues by her own family experience with serious work-related illness. Jenny graduated from Monash University with Bachelor degrees in Arts and Law. She was admitted to practice law in 2014 and is a tenacious solicitor with a strong drive to achieve fair and just outcomes for her clients.

“Having arrived in Australia in 1988 as a refugee and then growing up in the diverse suburbs of Dandenong and Springvale, I have been fortunate to have had exposure to a number of different communities,” says Jenny.

“Through these relationships, I have seen people experience real barriers to justice and equity in our community. As a result of these experiences, I grew up with a desire to be the kind of lawyer who helped vulnerable members of the community.

"My interest in WorkCover compensation developed when my father’s doctor suggested his numerous lung cancers were related to his work as a welder in the 1990s.  I researched the literature on this topic and became quite determined to become a workers’ compensation lawyer so that I could assist people like Dad in having their work injuries recognised and compensated."

Jenny is humbled and inspired by her clients and their ability to demonstrate strength and perseverance in the face of difficult and challenging times. She finds the most rewarding part of her job being able to achieve successful results for her clients. This is particularly so when it is in the face of decisions by workers’ compensation insurance companies that results in her clients experiencing financial hardship, unnecessary pain or deterioration of their psychological state.

“Often, as a workers’ compensation lawyer, I have clients who are not in a position to fight for what they deserve due to various limitations, including limited education, language barriers or by way of their psychological injuries. I feel quite lucky to be in a position where I am able to assist my clients by being equipped to fight on their behalf for what they are entitled to under the law.”
