Liz Woods is a lawyer practising in Maurice Blackburn’s Caboolture office.
Liz is a highly experienced medico-legal consultant with 19 years’ experience as a lawyer and 20 as a physiotherapist. She has degrees in Physiotherapy and Law, and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Her work with Maurice Blackburn involves representing everyday Queenslanders in WorkCover, CTP and public liability claims.
Liz possesses in-depth knowledge and notable expertise in the insurance industry in general, and workers’ compensation in particular. She previously served as CEO of the regulator Q-COMP for more than six years, as well as in an executive role with WorkCover Queensland.
Liz has a particular interest in bringing claims for the survivors of childhood sexual abuse. She is specially trained in trauma informed practice which ensures she works with clients to access justice in a way that recognises the complex trauma they have suffered.
"From a personal perspective, life can throw you challenges that seem insurmountable at the time. When you are vulnerable that is when I can look after you. That’s why I enjoy the fight on behalf of my clients,” says Liz.
Her strong client focus and extensive medico-legal background, coupled with her determination to fight for appropriate compensation when her clients are at their most vulnerable, make Liz a formidable legal practitioner. She is also a proud mother of three and a grandmother of one.
