Melissa Meyers is an Senior Associate and the regional office leader of Maurice Blackburn’s Darwin office. She helps people throughout the territory with compensation claims for workplace, road and public liability accidents.
Melissa has spent much of her legal career, including her studies, in Central Queensland, before moving to the NT to take up this leadership opportunity and continue her work with Maurice Blackburn.
Melissa started her law degree in 2001 and was awarded the Central Queensland Law Associate Bursary for Most Outstanding first year law student. Not bad considering she was also juggling two toddlers and a newborn baby at the time! The accolades continued throughout her legal studies and she graduated with her law degree in 2007. Melissa then completed a supervised traineeship at a local law firm in Rockhampton and was admitted to practice as a legal practitioner in 2009.
Since then, Melissa has spent two years working for the Office of the Adult Guardian in the Justice Department protecting the interests of people with impaired capacity, and she joined Maurice Blackburn in 2014, first in Rockhampton and now in Darwin.
“I have a background in social sciences and a strong sense of social justice. Having worked with some of the most vulnerable people in society, it was a natural fit to assist people during a time when they are experiencing significant disruption to their work and personal life.
“Everyone deserves a fair chance. It is incredibly rewarding to assist people through their claim, no matter what it is. In all cases, it is a pleasure to assist clients to achieve a settlement to compensate for the difficulties they have experienced. Compensation law is complex and constantly changing, and Maurice Blackburn provides ongoing training and support and has a genuine commitment to ensuring lawyers are the best they can be.”
Apart from being a busy mother-of-three, Melissa is an avid snow-skier, despite living in Darwin!
