Patricia McMullan is a class actions Associate in Maurice Blackburn’s Melbourne office.

Patricia holds Honours in Laws and Bachelor of Arts, and is driven to use the law to improve the lives of injured people.

Patricia is an experienced class actions lawyer, having worked on the settlement distributions of class actions across Federal and State jurisdictions. Patricia is presently involved in the following distributions:

  • DePuy ASR hip implants class action, which settled for $250 million in 2016 - largest class action settlement in the Federal Court of Australia and overall the third largest class action settlement in Australian legal history, and
  • Kilmore East-Kinglake Bushfire class action, which settled for a record $494 million in 2014 — the highest class action settlement in Australian legal history.

In addition to her class actions work, Patricia has a strong history of successfully advocating statutory and common law matters relating to WorkCover claims in Victoria, which makes her a well-rounded and competent lawyer ideally suited to class actions involving personal injury.

“One of the big challenges in personal injury is distilling a complex insurance scheme into everyday concepts and empowering people with this knowledge,” says Patricia.

“I feel privileged that I can ease some of the harm done to injured plaintiffs – I went into law to help people and that is what I can do in this role.”

Beyond her work at Maurice Blackburn, Patricia has a strong interest and commitment to social justice, including her volunteer work with the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and Fitzroy Legal Service.
