Paul Zapata is a personal injury Associate practising in Maurice Blackburn’s Caboolture office.
After completing a double degree in Accounting and Law, Paul initially worked in banking and finance before he was inspired to move into law by the desire to use his skills to help people when they are most vulnerable and are most in need of help. Paul’s determination to pursue what he believes is a more “real” and meaningful career, saw him start as Junior Legal Assistant at Maurice Blackburn in 2011, before being admitted to practice in 2014.
Paul has a particular interest in bringing claims for the survivors of childhood sexual abuse. He is specially trained in trauma informed practice which ensures he works with clients to access justice in a way that recognises the complex trauma they have suffered.
“I want to be able to look back in life and be genuinely proud of what I have achieved. As soon as I began and saw the good work that we do, I knew I had made the right choice, and I have not looked back since.”
Paul embraces the challenge of helping people through the very real struggles they face in their everyday lives, whether because of their injuries, or their poor treatment by their employers and insurance companies.
“The most rewarding thing is achieving a good settlement for clients and seeing that they are happy with the outcome. It is also rewarding to stand up for the rights of individuals and successfully challenge employers who wrongfully and neglectfully place their workers at risk of injuries.
“I am driven to make sure that negligent employers are held accountable so that they are pushed to actively change their policies and procedures at work to ensure a safer working environment and to prevent unnecessary injuries that can have a far reaching impact on a person’s life.”
Paul was the ‘face’ of Movember in Rockhampton in 2014, raising awareness and funds for men’s health.
