Peta Miller is a personal injury lawyer in Maurice Blackburn’s Brisbane office. She helps people with Comcare claims and military compensation.
Peta holds Honours in International Relations and Laws from Griffiths University and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law. She further consolidated her academic experience by studying human rights law and completing internships in the United States, Austria and the Czech Republic.
Peta was admitted to practice in 2014, and worked in a community legal centre and at the Australian Government Solicitors Office before joining Maurice Blackburn in 2016. Her experience with the AGS means Peta provides her clients with well-rounded representation because she has experience on the other side of legal proceedings.
Peta has first-hand experience of having a work injury and can strongly empathise with clients.
“This was a very difficult situation for me and I know it can be for my clients who find themselves in this situation,” says Peta.
“Wanting my clients' employers to take responsibility so that my clients get the acknowledgement they deserve is really what inspires me to work in this area of law.
“I recognise that securing compensation can be very hard in the Comcare scheme and I find it rewarding to get a good outcome in the scheme when it is so restrictive.
“It is really rewarding to be able to advocate for my clients so that I can get them successful outcomes within such a difficult scheme.
“I also understand that it takes courage to stand up for what you believe in when you are in the military and something goes wrong with your health.
“I have a number of family members who have served in the military and I have an incredible admiration for the men and women who serve their country.”
