Sally-Ann Hayward is a compassionate and hard-working Wills and Estates lawyer at Maurice Blackburn. She is based in our Cairns office and also provides legal advice to clients throughout our Queensland offices in Brisbane, Browns Plains, Caboolture, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Mackay, Rockhampton, Strathpine, Sunshine Coast, Townsville and Toowoomba.

Sally-Ann holds bachelor degrees in Arts and Laws and was admitted as a solicitor in Queensland in 2000.

Sally-Ann strives to provide clients with the best possible technical expertise in a manner they can easily understand. Her compassionate nature and attention to detail are particularly valued attributes of lawyers practising in the area of Will disputes and estates.

Sally-Ann’s many years of experience as a solicitor give her insight about how to help clients through what can be a difficult process. She considers her greatest professional achievement is providing successful outcomes for clients who would not normally have access to legal assistance.

“Often, clients have little knowledge of the financial remedies or benefits they can access upon the death of a loved one – whether it’s accessing and maximising the effect of superannuation death benefits or making a claim for further provision from an estate,” says Sally-Ann.

“I enjoy the technical aspects of estate administration and litigation. I am also passionate about providing assistance and advice to clients who are bereaved or unable to administer an estate for themselves.”

The death of a loved one is a traumatic time for the family and Sally-Ann delivers legal advice in a compassionate manner. She assists her clients in all aspects of estate administration, including:

  • applying for a grant of probate of a deceased’s Will or a grant of letters of administration if the deceased did not have a Will
  • gathering in assets and settling liabilities of the deceased’s estate – both simple and complex estates
  • ensuring tax issues in relation to the deceased personally or the estate are properly concluded as part of the administration process, and
  • ensuring the proper distribution of the proceeds of the estate to beneficiaries.

Sally-Ann also conducts estate litigation, including family provision claims. She enjoys working closely with her clients to prepare their application and supporting evidence to achieve the best possible outcome for them, often without the need to go to court.

Sally-Ann strongly believes that all people should have access to the law, despite their social and financial status. Maurice Blackburn supports less-fortunate clients by offering a range of fee-structures to ensure everyone has access to our dedicated Wills and estates law team.
