Jason Geisker has represented a diverse range of clients across
a wide range of practice areas. He has extensive class action
and commercial litigation experience having acted in numerous cases
including bankruptcy and insolvency, banking, construction,
corporations law, consumer and regulatory law, contract disputes,
equity and estate litigation, insurance and professional negligence
claims.
Some of Jason's more high profile cases include:
- a $39.5 million settlement obtained from AWB Ltd, for over 1,400 investors in
2010. The case was brought against AWB after its share price
collapsed on revelations of kickbacks paid to the former Iraqi
regime during the UN Oil-For-Food Program
- a successful investor class action on behalf of hundreds of
investors involving radiata pine plantation unregistered managed
investment schemes in NSW
- a shareholder class action against Nufarm Ltd seeking compensation
for investors as a result of inadequate disclosures to the ASX by
Nufarm during the FY2010 period
- public examinations relating to the City Pacific Limited's
insolvency and the Pacific First Mortgage Fund
- a Federal Court shareholder class action against Gunns Ltd seeking compensation for
over 300 investors resulting from Gunns' failure to make adequate
disclosures to the ASX in connection with its poor 1H2010
performance.
Since 1995 Jason has also actively worked on various legal and
policy reforms including access to justice issues and civil
procedure. Jason is a former Secretary and Treasurer of NSW
Young Lawyers and has held positions on the Human Rights, Criminal
Law and Civil Litigation Committees of NSW Young Lawyers between
1996 and 2010. Jason was also a senior editor and contributing
author to the 'Practitioners' Guide to Civil Litigation' (2nd ed
2006, 3rd ed 2010, NSW Young Lawyers, Sydney).
