Lucy Minter

Lucy Minter is an Associate in our class actions department in Sydney.

Practice Area
Class actions
Qualification(s)

LLB(Hons), Grad Dip Leg Prac, Cert III Carpentry

Lucy is working on:

  • Montara oil spill class action on behalf of Indonesian seaweed farmers who allege that their crops were destroyed by oil.
  • NT Youth Justice class action on behalf of young people mistreated in youth detention centres in the Northern Territory, between 1 August 2006 and 27 November 2017.

Lucy also  worked on the class actions against payday lender Cash Converters in Queensland and NSW, which allege that unfair credit fees were levied on vulnerable customers.

Lucy joined the firm in August 2013, and has worked on shareholder, product liability and other class actions, and also has a knowledge of corporate, commercial, tort and public law.

Lucy shares the firm's commitment to justice, fairness and compassion, and is excited by the opportunity that class actions afford people who are unable to bring their claims alone.

"Access to justice was the primary reason the class actions regime came into existence and its application is constantly expanding to include new areas of the law," says Lucy.

"One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is assisting people to gain redress for injustices suffered at the hands of corporations and government."

Before working at Maurice Blackburn, Lucy participated in internships at the Northern Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA) in the Northern Territory and the Public Interest Law Clearing House (PILCH). She volunteers one day a week at the Greater Sydney Aboriginal Tenants Service as a tenant advocate.

She holds a certificate 3 in construction carpentry and worked for five year on site, including running and working for housing NGOs in Australia, Nepal and Brazil.
