The Opt Out Notice

The Supreme Court of Victoria ordered that an “opt out notice” be published to tell people about this class action against JB Hi-Fi.

This notice was sent by email or SMS to people who may be group members in the JB Hi-Fi Class Action to let them know that they have the option to either participate or not participate in the class action.

The opt out notice was also published in newspapers on 2 March 2026.

Why did I receive an email or SMS about opt out?

If you received an email from noreply@classaction.mauriceblackburn.com.au or an SMS from ClassAction about the JB Hi-Fi class action opt out notice, this is because JB Hi-Fi’s records show that you may have purchased an extended warranty between 1 January 2011 and 8 December 2023.

If you have previously registered your interest in the JB Hi-Fi Class Action, you will have received an email from Maurice Blackburn providing a link to the general opt out notice.

What do I need to do?

If you want to participate in the class action, you do not need to do anything right now. You will never be asked to pay anything out of your own pocket by participating in the class action.

You are welcome to register your interest in the JB Hi-Fi Class Action to receive updates.

If you do not want to participate in the class action, you must opt out via the Supreme Court of Victoria website by 4.00pm (AEST) on 29 May 2026.

It is important that you read the opt out notice carefully because it may affect your legal rights. There are many answers to frequently asked questions on this website to help you.

What happens if I opt out?

If you ‘opt out’ of the JB Hi-Fi Class Action:

  • you will not be a group member in this class action.
  • you will not be able to claim any money or have a right to share in any benefit of any order, judgment or settlement, and you will not be bound by any settlement or judgment.
  • you may be able to bring your own claims against the defendant, if you bring the case within the time limit that applies. If you want to bring your own claims against the defendant, you should seek independent legal advice about your claims and any time limits before opting out.

Can Maurice Blackburn help me with the opt-out process?

No, any group member that wishes to opt out of the JB Hi-Fi Class Action must submit the online opt out notice on the Supreme Court of Victoria website.

There may be more than 8 million group members in this proceeding, and we are unable to assist individual group members with opting out. If you are having difficulties with technology, please ask a trusted family member or friend to help you.

You should not contact the Supreme Court of Victoria for advice, as the Court will be unable to assist you.
