Melissa specialises in catastrophic injuries, psychological injuries and fatal injury claims and she helps people throughout Queensland with complex claims.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Melissa worked as an academic researcher in the social sciences and as a youth counsellor. After switching her focus to the law and being admitted as a lawyer in 2009, Melissa spent much of her legal career in Rockhampton, before moving to the NT in 2018 to lead the Maurice Blackburn office in Darwin for two years.
In 2020 she returned to Queensland and now leads the Maurice Blackburn Bundaberg team, while assisting clients across Queensland.
Melissa is driven by the desire to help clients through the process of a claim and to achieve the best possible outcome.
“I have a background in social sciences and a strong sense of social justice. Having worked with some of the most vulnerable people in society, it was a natural fit to assist people during a time when they are experiencing significant disruption to their work and personal life. Everyone deserves a fair chance and to have someone fight for them.
It is incredibly rewarding to assist clients to achieve a settlement to compensate for the difficulties they have experienced. Compensation law is complex and constantly changing, and Maurice Blackburn provides ongoing training and support and has a genuine commitment to ensuring lawyers are the best they can be.”
In her spare time Melissa is an avid snow-skier, despite living in Queensland!
