Jennifer Ngo

Jen is a thorough and determined advocate who believes the law should deliver fair and just outcomes for everyday people. She works across multiple jurisdictions and practice areas, with a strong focus on cases that tackle systemic disadvantage and drive social change.

"The law is sometimes extremely complex. But it is also everywhere, affecting everyday people. We use our skills so that our clients can use the law for justice in the same way that we know organisations and institutions can use it to avoid accountability. We don't shy away from hard legal cases," says Jen.

Since joining the social justice practice, Jen has contributed to significant outcomes, including:

• Securing a commitment from the NSW Government to withdraw and refund 23,000 invalid COVID fines worth more than $15 million, following a proposed class action. These fines disproportionately impacted disadvantaged communities and families.
• Acting for a same-sex couple against a state government department that refused to approve them as adoptive parents based on their BMI. The couple was ultimately approved as eligible to be adoptive parents within months, and the department updated its policies.

Before joining Maurice Blackburn, Jen practiced as a commercial disputes solicitor and served as an Associate at the Victorian Court of Appeal. She also volunteers with Refugee Legal.
