Irina Jovic is an experienced superannuation and insurance lawyer in Maurice Blackburn’s Melbourne office.
Irina began her career at Maurice Blackburn in 2014, working as a paralegal, legal assistant and trainee lawyer before being admitted to practice in 2017. She is familiar with all aspects of superannuation and insurance law, including dispute resolution and litigation for rejected Total and Permanent Disability (TPD), income protection, home and contents, and travel insurance claims.
Irina completed her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws at Deakin University in 2014, and her Diploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law in 2016. She practices in the Magistrates’, County and Supreme Courts of Victoria, and at the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal and the Financial Ombudsman Service.
“I’ve always had a desire to help those less fortunate, and quite early on I realised that pursuing the law would be the pathway to do that,” says Irina.
“I was very privileged to be able to obtain a law degree, and I wanted to ensure that I used my privilege to benefit those who are taken advantage of, be it by an insurance company, employer or super fund.”
Irina describes herself as a “devoted Geelong Cats supporter, crazy dog person, and coffee enthusiast” who is proud of her Bosnian heritage.
“I am inspired by my parents who fled a war-torn country and risked everything when I was only four years old to ensure I had a safe and healthy upbringing in Australia. I am also inspired by the fact that Maurice Blackburn’s foundations of social justice still run true today and guides the work that we all do, helping those who are most vulnerable.”
