Nina Abbey is a Principal Lawyer in Maurice Blackburn’s Sydney Class Actions practice. She is an experienced litigator specialising in complex disputes and consumer protection claims.

Nina has recently represented claimants in the following cases:

  • A class action on behalf of over 300,000 MLC Super Fund superannuation fund members alleging breaches of trustee duties in the implementation of the MySuper reforms which settled for $64.25 million;
  • A class action on behalf of 100,000 members of the Colonial First State superannuation fund alleging breaches of trustee duties in relation to the MySuper reforms which settled for $56.3 million;
  • the Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda class actions commenced on behalf of Australian consumers in relation to the international diesel emissions issue. The settlement of those cases resulted in $124 million plus legal costs being paid to more than 40,000 eligible claimants;
  • the DePuy (LCS Duofix Femoral Component) class action which compensated people who were surgically implanted with failed knee prostheses;
  • a class action on behalf of young people falsely imprisoned by the New South Wales Police Force; and
  • the Amcor / Visy cartel class action which secured a settlement of $120 million on behalf of affected group members.

Nina has been recognised a leading class actions lawyer (Australia) in the 2025 Doyle’s Guide. Her academic work has also been published in The Cambridge Handbook of Class Actions (edited by Brian T Fitzpatrick and Randall S Thomas; 2021).  

Nina graduated from University of Technology, Sydney with Bachelor degrees in Communications and Laws (First Class Honours). She is currently completing a Master of Laws at the University of New South Wales.

Nina is driven by a strong sense of justice and fairness and finds that working in class actions allows her to help to enforce the rights of people who have been treated unfairly or taken advantage of by those in positions of power.
