Gemma was admitted to practice in June 2009 and since then, has worked in the areas of personal injury and insurance law. This has included road injuries and workers’ compensation, fatal accidents, public liability and third party industrial matters. She also represented the Insurance Commission of WA for four years as specified personnel on its legal panel.
“I have always been proud to represent Plaintiffs to ensure access to justice and that they achieve a fair outcome. In particular, I have found that my work with survivors of childhood sexual abuse has led me to assist the most vulnerable in society, including people of low socio-economic status, minority ethnic groups, members of the stolen generation, incarcerated persons and those who have seriously debilitating mental and physical injuries. My motivation is to provide a voice and empower those who for so long, have been silenced.”
Gemma also heads up Maurice Blackburn’s WA Sexual Abuse practice. She has been working in this area of law since before the legislation was amended on 1 July 2018 to enable abuse survivors to seek justice in the wake of the Royal Commission. She is passionate in seeking compensation and empowerment for survivors of institutional childhood sexual abuse.
