Ben McIlwain

Ben acts for clients who have suffered an injury, illness or disease during their work. He is committed to achieving the best possible compensation and other tangible results for his clients.

Ben began his professional life as a social worker and youth worker, then completed his Bachelor of Law with Honours at Victoria University. He worked for other Melbourne law firms before joining Maurice Blackburn in 2016.

“When I was a social worker, I gained exposure to various court systems and realised that many people’s experience of our legal system was a negative one,” says Ben.

“I entered the profession with the goal of changing this perception and am very happy to be now working for a firm with a long and proud history of pursuing social justice.”

Ben is regarded as an empathetic and straight-forward lawyer who empowers clients through clear and concise advice.

“I enjoy earning the trust of my clients, and I always work to minimise the stress levels of injured clients during what is a tough time in their lives. I believe in fostering a strong lawyer-client relationship because it assists greatly in ensuring the smooth progress of WorkCover compensation claims.

“I share the frustrations that many injured workers experience in their dealings with insurers and legal processes. It is my role to take that burden off their shoulders by ensuring that they are well advised of their rights and well informed of the WorkCover processes.

“By guiding my clients through the legal process, I enable them to focus on their recovery and to move on with their lives.”

Ben is primarily based in Sunshine, and is available for fortnightly appointments at our Ballarat visiting office.
