Giles is an experienced employment and industrial lawyer who has spent nearly a decade advocating for workers and improving access to justice across NSW. He has advised and represented clients across a broad range of workplace matters, including unfair dismissal, discrimination, underpayments and contractual disputes.
Before joining Maurice Blackburn, Giles worked at the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and the Fair Work Commission, where he gained valuable insight into the way workplace disputes are determined. He later represented vulnerable workers as a Senior Solicitor in Legal Aid NSW's Workplace Rights Service, managing a wide range of termination, contractual, discrimination and underpayment matters. He brings a practical, evidence-based approach to his advocacy, informed by regular appearances before state and federal tribunals and courts, as well as direct engagement with the people his advice affects most.
Giles has seen first-hand the power imbalance that many workers face, whether it's a migrant worker in the horticulture sector being underpaid or a vulnerable employee navigating a termination without support. That imbalance is what drives everything he does.
As the 2025 recipient of the Law Society of NSW's John Hennessy Scholarship, Giles researched migrant worker exploitation and the regulation of labour hire companies. He has also led submissions and given evidence to parliamentary inquiries on modern slavery, worker exploitation and reform of the Fair Work Act. Being able to translate that research and advocacy into real outcomes for clients, and systemic change for workers more broadly, is one of the most rewarding aspects of his work.
